Top 4 Shows it's Okay to base your wedding on

Some people don't do windows, I don't do "themes" ...at least not in the costume party, cheesy pop culture reference way. I think a wedding is first a wedding, and then if the influences of your favorite music, movies, what have you get mixed in because they describe you, then they play their subtle role. So, I guess if Star Trek is your thing, a groom's cake in the shape of the Starship Enterprise is okay. But for those of you looking for a more covet way to slip in some of your favorites, here are some shows that lend themselves naturally to the wedding environment.

Downton Abbey - more about the period than the show, Edwardian glamour that was about modest, modern cuts with intricate beadwork and lace, traditional formal styling, and fine manners.

Mad Men - again, more the era itself: sharp dressing for men in tweeds and patterns, vibrant colors and modern organic lines. more about fun and youth than the eras before which can feel stuffy by comparison.

Gossip Girl - modern, NY glam. really about being fashion forward, clothing conscious, and blending traditional elements with modern technology to make everything old new again.

Boardwalk Empire - Yes, another era-specific title, this time embracing the free-flowing, party loving spirit of the 20's. Cool, dark, mysterious, and sophisticated, this was the first era that really broke away from the Victorian where American culture moved to the forefront!
