In the past decade we've seen Monique Lhuillier and her brand of romantic old world dress-making come to the fore-front of bridal fashion. There are celebrity sightings in her gowns on the red carpet and down the aisle, and Monique has built a bridal house strong enough to stand up against the greatest, even Ms Wang!
So who is Monique, and what makes her dresses so special? I think for people who have been lucky enough to meet her, you know her love of brides and making them feel beautiful is undeniable. She is sweet, sincere, and incredibly charming.
Monique started her collection when options for her own wedding felt old fashioned and lacking the options she was looking for (hmm, sounds vaguely like why a certain bridal shop named Anna Bé opened its doors 5 years ago). She was world travelled enough to really understand fashion from a global perspective; raised in the Philippines by French and Spanish parents, boarding school in Switzerland, college in LA. And Monique always understood the feminine mixed with forward-thinking. The resurgence of trends like the corset and skirt separates or daring open backs started from her lines and spread like wild fire through the industry. I've talked to people who met her when the company was small, when Monique would attend trunk shows and custom design/sketch dresses for brides. She always made an effort to make them feel special, and you can feel the special attention to detail and love that goes into her dresses.
I was lucky enough to meet Monique last year in New York, and the experience didn't disappoint, she is truly as lovely and kind as people describe her, and it endeared me to her dresses all the more! We're proud to have her collection at Anna Be and can't wait to share all the beautiful things she makes for brides as special as, well, you! Don't miss the upcoming trunk show!
