Vera, Vera on the Wall

What can be said about Vera Wang that hasn't been said before? I mean we all know that she's fabulous, fashion-forward, and defined an entire era of what women wear for their wedding day, what else do you need?! In a world full of superlatives, Vera is considered by many to be the best wedding gown designer in the world... so how did that happen?

Vera grew up in NYC and was exposed to the amazing cross section of cultures and influences that the city provides. Daughter of Chinese parents who had only moved to America a few years before Vera was born, she was always pushed to excel, even competing in 1968 for the US figure skating Olympic team. She found herself a Senior Editor at Vogue and only left after losing the Editor-in-Chief job to the one and only Ms. Anna Wintour. A few short years (and after a stint at Ralph Lauren) she opened up her boutique in the Carlyle hotel.

When I think of Vera Wang gowns, I think of the strong singular perspective of the strong, New York woman. Vera has made fashion her life, and knew that bridal needed a serious injection of cool into its designs. She's carried that aesthetic into ready to wear, china, paper, shoes, costume, but her bridal line remains the most famous. Now that her line has been going strong for over 20 years, all her dresses seem to be speaking to a very modern desire for things that are soft, beautiful, glamourous, and subtle. The laces are never overt, the patterns are always asymmetrical, and the detailing is exquisite! We're thrilled to show you more of Vera's creations during our annual trunk show, and to celebrate one of the pioneering forces in bridal design, and one of the reasons why we love wedding gowns so much!

Thanks Vera!
